MoDOT St. Louis Area District News Release
Prepared by Andrew Gates 314/453-1808
ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Concrete Strategies, Inc., has removed the temporary barrier and restriped westbound Interstate 44 over the Meramec River to its final lane configuration.
Although the project primarily repaired the bridge over the Meramec River, crews also extended the entrance ramp from Lewis Road across the bridge. This improved the roadway's safety by giving drivers a longer distance to merge from the entrance ramp to the interstate.
Drivers can still expect some night-time lane closures as crews finish up minor work on the project.
This is part of a $3.7 million project to rehabilitate the westbound I-44 bridge over the Meramec River and replace the deck on the Lewis Road overpass.
The Lewis Road work in the area continues. Traffic across the Lewis Road Bridge is still one lane, with each direction controlled by a signal.
Travelers can get up-to-the-minute traffic information on interstates or major state routes by dialing 5-1-1 from most cell phones; if 5-1-1 isn't available from your telephone, please dial 877-478-5511 (877-4STL-511).
