ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Department of Transportation, and its contractor, Millstone Bangert, are currently keeping a close eye on the weather, but are still planning to celebrate the completion of the Route 40/61 upgrade work in St. Charles County with a ribbon cutting TODAY at 11 a.m.

During the ribbon cutting, crews will remove the last signal on the route at Callahan Road. As crews remove this signal, traffic on Route 40/61 will have to stop for a short period of time to safely remove the signal.

The public is cordially invited to the celebration, near the intersection of the north outer Route 40/61 road and Callahan Road. Those interested in attending can exit westbound Route 40/61 at the new exit at Prospect Road and take the north outer road to Callahan. Parking will be available by the MoDOT park and ride lot at Callahan and along the outer road.

This $23 million project upgrades Route 40 between Lake St. Louis Boulevard and Interstate 70 to interstate standards. With this section complete, drivers will be able to drive from Interstate 270 to Interstate 70 along Route 40/61 without being stopped at a signal. Additionally, after Federal Highway Administration approval, the stretch of Route 40/61 between I-270 in St. Louis and I-70 in Wentzville will officially be redesignated as Interstate 64.
