ST. LOUIS - Due to the impending completion of work on the Prospect Road bridge over Route 40/61 in St. Charles County, the Missouri Department of Transportation, and its contractor, Millstone Bangert, will adjust traffic patterns at Prospect Road and Callahan Road, starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009.
Drivers will need to remain aware of rapid changes in the area as crews prepare to close access from Callahan Road to Route 40/61 and open up the Prospect Road bridge and interchange. Work should be mostly complete, weather permitting, by tomorrow's scheduled 11 a.m. ribbon cutting on Callahan Road.
When the work is complete, drivers on Callahan will have to use either the north or south outer roads to access Route 40/61. Additionally, drivers on Route 40/61 will not be able to access Callahan directly. Access to the outer roads and Callahan will be available from the new Prospect Road bridge and interchange, which should open shortly before Callahan Road is closed between the north and south outer roads.
This $23 million project upgrades Route 40 between Lake St. Louis Boulevard and Interstate 70 to interstate standards. Additionally, after Federal Highway Administration approval, the stretch of Route 40/61 between I-270 in St. Louis and I-70 in Wentzville will officially be redesignated as Interstate 64.
