ST LOUIS -- The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) awarded the first round of Amendment 3 projects at its February 2 meeting. More than $41 million in Amendment 3 projects was awarded, which is part of MoDOT’s "Smoother, Safer, Sooner" initiative. The projects include:

  • Rte. N from Bryan Rd. to Motherhead Rd. – Resurface; and Rte. N at the intersection of Weiss Rd. in Cottleville - Grading, paving, signal, lighting, left and right turn lanes. Awarded to Pace Construction Company for $1.3 million.

"We're starting right away to put Amendment 3 money to work, and we are targeting roads that benefit the most people," said MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Greg Horn. The highway miles included in the Smooth Roads Initiative account for 60 percent of all traffic on the state system. About 86 percent of Missouri's population lives within 10 miles of one of the selected roads.

Future Amendment 3 projects will be awarded at each monthly MHTC meeting. More details on MoDOT's Smoother, Safer, Sooner program, including project lists, a statewide project map and additional Amendment 3 details, are available on the department's web site at www.modot.org.

One other non-Amendment 3 project awarded by the MHTC on February 2 includes:

  • I-70 from east of Fifth St. to west of Earth City Expressway over the Missouri River – Rehabilitate the eastbound bridge (painting and expansion joints) and resurface eastbound and westbound I-70. Awarded to KCI Construction Company for $11.6 million.
Construction on these projects is expected to begin this spring, and completion is anticipated for fall/late 2005.
