Commission Awards Local Projects At June 10
Meeting
Commission Awards More Than $108 Million For Improvement Projects In The St. Louis Region

ST LOUIS – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) awarded more than $108 million to contractors for various roadway improvement projects in the St. Louis metro region at its June 10 meeting.

"This is one of the largest lettings we've ever had in the St. Louis metro area in terms of number of projects and dollar amount," said Assistant District Engineer Greg Horn. Horn said the large letting is due to MoDOT’s new Smoother, Safer, Sooner program. MoDOT is planning hundreds of additional projects with funding from the passage of Amendment 3 last November.

More than $47 million in Amendment 3 projects was awarded in the St. Louis region, which is part of MoDOT’s "Smoother, Safer, Sooner" initiative. The projects include:

  • I-55 from Lindbergh Blvd. to 4500 S. Broadway – Resurface and repair bridges. This work also includes resurfacing and replacing the signals at the intersection of I-55 and Germania and at the intersection of I-55 and Carondelet. Awarded to Fred Weber, Inc. (Maryland Heights, MO) for $12.6 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by summer 2006.

  • Rte. 79 from I-70 to the Lincoln County line – Repair pavement and resurface. Awarded to Chester Bross Construction Company (Hannibal, MO) for $3.6 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2006.

  • Rte. 47 from south of I-44 to the Rte. 47/30 split and from Rte. 50 to I-44 – Resurface. Awarded to N.B. West Contracting Company (Brentwood, MO) $3.8 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2006.

  • Resurfacing at the following locations. Awarded to Pace Construction Company (St. Louis, MO) for $16.7 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2006.
    - Rte. 180 from west of Rte. 67 to east of San Carlos Rd.;
    - Rte. 67 from Rte. 367 to north of Old St. Charles Rd.;
    - and Rte. 67 from Rte. 367 to south of Swan Rd.

  • Resurfacing at the following locations. Awarded to Fred Weber, Inc. (Maryland Heights, MO) for $10.7 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2006.
    - I-270 from north of I-55 to the Mississippi River (Chain of Rocks Bridge). Work also includes shoulder repair;
    - I-70 from I-270 to the Missouri River (Blanchette Bridge). Work also includes concrete traffic barrier replacement;
    - and I-270/255 from the Chain of Rocks Bridge to the Jefferson Barracks Bridge. Work also includes improving roadway pavement markings and concrete median barrier markings.

Other non-Amendment 3 projects awarded by the MHTC on June 10 include:

  • I-44 at the St. Clair Rest Area (Franklin County) - Install water and sanitary lines to the rest area. Awarded to Unnerstall Contracting Company (Pacific, MO) for $2.1 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by early 2006.

  • I-70 from west of Rte. W (St. Charles County) to east of I-270 - Install Intelligent Transportation Systems. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $3.6 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by spring 2007.

  • I-70 at the eastbound Cave Springs Rd. entrance ramp - Widen ramp and install lighting. Awarded to N.B. West Contracting Company (Brentwood, MO) for $88,564. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2005.

  • Rte. 21 north and south of the I-270 interchange – Improve pavement markings, install traffic signals and highway signing. Awarded to Midwest Trenching & Excavating, Inc. (Washington, MO) for $64,535. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2005.

  • Rte. 367 from I-270 to New Jamestown Rd. – Upgrade to four-lane uninterrupted freeway. Awarded to Fred Weber, Inc. (Maryland Heights, MO) for $44.9 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by late 2008.

  • Rte. 370 at the Discovery Bridge – Install solar lighting on the bridge. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $45,993. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2005.

  • I-64 from Rte. K (St Charles County) to east to Rte. 141 in Chesterfield - Install Intelligent Transportation Systems. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $1.2 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by summer 2006.

  • I-70 from west of Rte. Z to east of Rte. 40/61 (St. Charles County) – Install lighting. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $984,359. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by spring 2006.

  • New signals and lighting at the following locations. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $550,000. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by early 2006.
    - I-270 North Outer Rd. at Bellefontaine Rd. and the I-270 ramps;
    - and Rte. N at the intersection of Frost Ave.

  • I-70 on the South Outer Rd. west of Lake St Louis Blvd. (St. Charles County) – Paving and add left turn lane. Awarded to Gaines Construction, Inc. (Wentzville, MO) for $666,737. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by fall 2005.

  • Rte. 367 from Lillian St. to McLaran St. – Improve signals at four intersections. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $613,776. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by spring 2006.

  • Rte. 340 (Olive Blvd.) from Woodson Rd. to Ferguson Rd. and from east of I-170 to east of Ferguson Rd. – Resurface from east of I-170 to east of Ferguson Rd. and new signals and signing from Woodson Rd. to Ferguson Rd. Awarded to Pace Construction Company (St. Louis, MO) for $3.5 million. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by summer 2006.

  • Rte. 141 from north of Ladue Rd. to south of I-44 - Install Intelligent Transportation Systems. Awarded to Gerstner Electric Inc. (Fenton, MO) for $531,739. The project is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by spring 2006.

  • Resurfacing at the following locations in St. Charles County. Awarded to Byrne & Jones Construction (St. Louis, MO) for $1.1 million. Construction is expected to begin this summer and should be complete by spring 2006.
    - Rte. DD from Rte. 40 to Rte. 94;
    - Rte. Y from Rte. 79 to the St. Charles County line;
    - Rte. M from Rte. 79 to Rte. P;
    - and Rte. W from south of Rte. 61 to the St. Charles County line.

  • Various locations in the St. Louis metro area – On call guardrail repair. Awarded to Collins & Hermann Inc. (St. Louis, MO) for $935,935. The on-call contract will extend through summer 2006.
