Project:
- Replace existing Glenstone Avenue bridges over I-44 with wider, higher bridges
- Convert "cloverleaf" interchange to "diamond" interchange, with new traffic signals on Glenstone Avenue at new ramps
- Widen Route H between I-44 and Valley Water Mill Road by adding center turn lane
- Widen intersections on Route H at McClernon Street and at Valley Water Mill Road
Construction: January 2009 to July 2010
Cost: $8.3 million, with MoDOT paying for interchange work, City of Springfield and Greene County paying for Route H widening.
Prime Contractor: Emery Sapp & Sons, Columbia
Traffic Impacts During Construction:
• Two ramps closed until late Fall 2009 or Spring 2010: Eastbound I-44-to-northbound Glenstone Avenue and northbound Glenstone Avenue-to-westbound I-44. Detour: East to Route 65, north to Valley Water Mill Road, south on Route 65 to westbound I-44.
• Glenstone Avenue over I-44 reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction on one bridge as other bridge is torn down and replaced
• I-44 closed for 18 hours on two separate Saturdays – one in February 2009 and one in late summer or early fall 2009
• I-44 closed for three nights up to 5 hours in April 2009 and late fall 2009
