Resurfacing on Missouri Route 39 and Lawrence
County Route M Scheduled to Start Week of March 13

Lawrence County – Drivers can expect one-lane traffic and delays when projects to resurface sections of Missouri Route 39 and Lawrence County Route M begin in mid-March, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The projects include resurfacing, adding two-foot shoulders and rumble strips, and replacing guardrail.

In addition, the bridge ends on the Route 39 bridge over Honey Creek will be modified so upgraded guardrail can be added. Guardrail enhancements will be added to the box culvert on Route M over Chat Creek.

Here’s a look at the schedule:

  • Beginning Monday, March 13, crews will close one lane of Route 39 and install temporary traffic signals at the Honey Creek bridge between Route P and Route FF north of Aurora to begin installation of upgraded guardrail. From there, crews will do the same thing to the railroad bridge one mile south of Honey Creek and on the Route M bridge over Chat Creek
  • On Monday, March 27, crews are scheduled to start resurfacing and shoulder work on Route 39 at Carnation Street in Aurora and proceed north to I-44 in Mount Vernon
  • Once crews finish Route 39, they will move to Lawrence County Route M between Route 174 and Route 96 north of Mount Vernon.

Drivers can expect one-lane traffic and delays where crews are set up working on the highways.

Flaggers and pilot cars will guide drivers through the work zones. Work will be done during daytime hours.

Drivers are urged to use caution and watch for crews and equipment on the road.

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
