Greene County - A project to replace the Route MM-B bridge over I-44 west of Springfield will mean road closings and traffic interruptions when the project gets underway August 1, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
An open house-style public meeting to discuss the construction and the resulting traffic impacts is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the First Baptist Church of Brookline in the Family Life Center at 2044 S. State Highway MM. MoDOT and contractor representatives will be at the meeting to answer questions. An online meeting also will be available by visiting www.modot.org/southwest.
The Route MM-B bridge will be torn down to make way for a new structure.
During the project, Route MM south of I-44 and Route B north of I-44 will be CLOSED between August 1 and November 1. The ramps at the interchange will remain OPEN the majority of the time.
I-44 at the Route MM-B interchange will be CLOSED the weekend of August 1 to allow crews to demolish the bridge over the interstate.
I-44 will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 1, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. The ramps at the interchange will remain open and traffic may still use the ramps to exit onto Route MM-B.
During the bridge demolition, I-44 traffic will be detoured using Route 360, Route 60 and Route 65 on the southern edge of Springfield to get around the interstate closing.
Traffic on Route MM and Route B will NOT be able to use the ramps to access the interstate. Traffic on Route MM and Route B will not be able to cross the bridge over I-44 as well.
The Route MM-B bridge over I-44 will be CLOSED from August 1 to November 1. However, the ramps at the interchange will remain open much of the time.
However, it will be necessary to CLOSE the ramps at the interchange for up to 30 days beginning in late September. During the closing, drivers will NOT be able to use the interchange. During this period, drivers will need to find alternate routes including Route 266 to the north and Route 60/413 to the south.
Drivers can expect nighttime lane closings at times on I-44 at Routes MM-B at times. Nighttime work hours will be 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
