MoDOT Holds Johnny Lee Hays Memorial Highway Dedication
SIKESTON-A Memorial Highway Dedication Ceremony was held Thursday, Dec. 2 to celebrate the naming of the Johnny Lee Hays Memorial Highway on Route 53 in Butler County. The ceremony was held at the Qulin Lion's Club, 39 Fifth Street.

Senator Robert Mayer and Representative Tom Todd sponsored the legislation, naming the portion of Highway 53 in Butler County from the city limits of Qulin to one mile south of the city limits the Johnny Lee Hays Memorial Highway.
Hays was born in 1943 in Qulin, Mo. He attended the Qulin United Methodist Church and the First Baptist Church, in Dexter, Mo. Hays worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation as a maintenance shed foreman. In 2001, he was injured in a work related accident. In 2003, he retired after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Four Mile Masonic Lodge 212 AF and AM - in Campbell, the Scottish Rite and the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees. He also served with the Missouri National Guard.
