SIKESTON - The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to kick-off improvements to Route 34 in Wayne County on Thursday, Nov. 5. The ceremony will begin at noon at the Trinity United Methodist Church, located on Route 34 between Piedmont and Patterson. The public and media are invited to attend.
The project includes grading, paving, adding shoulders and some realignment of Route 34 from Piedmont to Patterson. The project also includes resurfacing with paved shoulders from Patterson to the new Route 34 realignment at Silva.
Anticipated speakers include:

· State Representative Shelley Keeney
· Mayor of Piedmont William Kirkpatrick
· Former Mayor of Piedmont Gaylon Watson
· Wayne County Presiding Commissioner Brian Polk
· President of the Piedmont Area Chamber of Commerce Robert Gayle
· MoDOT District Engineer Mark Shelton
This is one of the Southeast District's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act projects. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $10,490,752 contract for the project to H.R. Quadri Contractors, LLC, Van Buren, Mo., in July.
