Route 72 in Cape County will continue to be reduced to one lane with a 14 foot width restriction while contractor crews begin paving.
Robertson Contractors, Inc. is planning to install temporary traffic signals beginning on Thursday, October 8 that will be in place for 24 hours a day in order to complete the paving operation for the new bridge on Route 72 at Byrd Creek. Traffic will be routed onto a one lane temporary bypass so that the contractor can tie the new pavement to the existing pavement. Once the paving is completed, the traffic will be routed onto the new pavement and the new bridge.
This section of roadway is located between County Road 465 and County Road 469. Motorists should expect delays especially during peak travel times in the morning and afternoon.
Weather permitting, the bypass will be in place for approximately one week
The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area and utilize alternate routes when possible.
