Work to Begin in February at Route 47 and Warrior Avenue in Warrenton

HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, work to improve the intersection of Route 47 and Warrior Avenue in Warrenton will begin February 16, 2009. Included in the project is the addition of left turn lanes for traffic on Route 47, and the intersection will be signalized and lighted to further enhance traffic flow. The City of Warrenton, MoDOT and Warren County R-III School District are sharing the cost of the project.

Traffic will be handles over the existing lanes during construction. However, there will be periodic lane closures and times when lane widths are narrow. Sidewalk closures will be required during construction.

At the beginning of the project, Route 47 will be reduced to one lane with flaggers controlling traffic during two nights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. while MoDOT's contractor replaces culverts under the road; Warrior Avenue traffic will not be affected. The area should be opened to traffic no later than 6 a.m. Construction equipment will be entering and exiting the work zone, therefore motorists will experience some delays. Flashing arrow boards and orange signs will alert motorists prior to the work zone to secure the safety of the motoring public as well as the safety of the workers. Please use extra caution while traveling through the work zone.

"We will use our e-update notification system and local media to keep area residents informed on the project," explained MoDOT Transportation Project Manager Chris Knapp. The e-update notification system is a free email subscription that allows Internet users with an email account to receive project or county-specific information about transportation issues. To subscribe to this free service, go to http://www.modot.org/ and click on the e-update link, or call MoDOT at 1-888 ASK MODOT.
