Route 36 Opening - Announced December 15, 2006
MACON – The Missouri Department of Transportation announced today that another milestone is scheduled on the Route 36 corridor. On Monday, December 18, MoDOT will open eight miles of new four-lane highway from the Linn County line to just east of New Cambria six months ahead of schedule and $1 million under budget. The completion of this section makes the highway four-lanes from Macon to St. Joseph.
The more than $35 million dollar project, constructed by McAnich Corporation, included four-laning, grading, paving and new bridges on the eight-mile section. A new interchange at New Cambria and a concrete overlay to the existing lanes from Callao to the Linn County line were also included in the project.
Additional projects are underway to upgrade Route 36 to a four-lane facility across the state:
- Hannibal to Monroe City is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in the fall of 2008.
- Monroe City to Shelbina is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in the winter of 2009.
- Construction is scheduled to begin from Shelbina to Macon in the winter of 2008, completing the corridor across the state by the end of 2010.
