Pavement Improvements Scheduled on Westbound U.S. Route 36 in Marion and Ralls Counties

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, as early as March 26, pavement improvements are scheduled to begin on 18 miles of westbound U.S. Route 36 in Marion and Ralls counties, from 0.7 mile west of U.S. Route 61 at Hannibal to 0.5 mile west of Route Z near Monroe City. This work includes pavement repairs, shoulder improvements, resurfacing and diamond grinding.

Motorists can expect the following traffic impacts where crews are actively working:

  • Lane reductions with a 12-foot width restriction
  • Speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph
  • Periodic overnight lane reductions throughout the project

Initial work will include pavement repairs between 0.9 mile east of Route H to Route Z at Monroe City. In early April, overnight ramp closures are scheduled for the westbound U.S. 36 ramps at the Route Z interchange in Monroe City. The closures will occur between 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Upon completion of pavement repairs this section will be resurfaced including shoulder improvements.

Pavement repairs and diamond grinding only will be completed at the following locations:

  • Westbound U.S. 36 from Hannibal to 0.9 mile east of Route H
  • Eastbound U.S. 36 from 0.9 mile east of Route H to 1.8 miles east of U.S. 24 east junction in Marion County

Signs, including message boards, will be utilized for traffic control and alerts such as schedule changes. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

The $8.2M contract was awarded last year to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. of Columbia, Missouri. All work is scheduled to be completed by mid-Summer.
