Crews to narrow, close lanes on I-270 near Conway this week

ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use Interstate 270 between Ladue Road and Interstate 64 should be aware that congestion levels in the area will rise significantly as work to replace an interstate bridge over Conway Road moves into a new stage next week.

This week, crews will close up to three lanes on northbound and southbound I-270 Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to grind out rumble strips and remove lane stripes.  Next week, weather permitting, crews will narrow lanes on the interstate, Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12. Work starts each night at 9 p.m. in both directions between I-64 and Olive Boulevard.  Up to three lanes will be closed overnight to allow crews to grind out restripe narrower lanes on the interstate. The narrowed lanes will open by 5 a.m. the following morning.

When lanes reopen Saturday, April 13, crews will close one northbound lane between Interstate 64 and Ladue Road. One northbound lane will remain closed through the remainder of the two-year project; crews will keep three northbound lanes open.

During this project, crews will be replacing the bridge over Conway Road (between I-64 and Ladue) and widening the bridge over Ladue Road. This stretch of interstate is one of the most heavily traveled in the state. Construction will have impacts on traffic moving through the area through the remainder of the two-year project, especially during morning and evening rush periods.  Crews will close one southbound lane late this spring – information on that closure will be shared when more details have been determined.

Where possible, drivers should consider adjusting the time of their commutes, telecommuting, or using alternate routes (U.S. Route 67 (Lindbergh Boulevard) or Route 141 may be options).
