JEFFERSON CITY, MO - Waves of freezing rain, sleet and snow pounded the state of Missouri last night, leaving the northern half of the state covered in slush and ice-encrusted roads.
MoDOT crews are working to clear the way with heavy weather expected to continue for many parts of the state through the day and into tomorrow. Travel conditions remain hazardous for Interstate 70.
"As of this morning, the northern half of the state is covered and travelers are asked to use extreme caution if they have to get out," said Beth Wright, MoDOT state maintenance engineer. "As always, we ask you to check the Traveler Information Map before leaving your house."
Heavy weather is expected to continue for many parts of the state through this evening and into tomorrow, MoDOT crews will continue to work to clear routes throughout the day. Travelers are asked to check local conditions to plan their trips accordingly.
