HARRISONVILLE - Improvements to Route 7 (Mechanic Street) in Harrisonville that will widen, add storm drains and sidewalks east of Independence Street will be presented at a public meeting March 13 at Harrisonville City Hall, 300 E. Pearl Street.
The open house public meeting, from 5 to 7 p.m., will allow citizens to come and go as they please during the two hours, view displays and ask MoDOT engineers details about the project. There will be no formal presentation. MoDOT expects to start the $2.4 million project in the spring of 2015 and complete the work that season.
The project will reconstruct the pavement, replace curbs, gutters and sidewalks on ¾ mile of Route 7 (Mechanic Street) between Independence Street and Eastwood Road, add curbs, gutters and sidewalks between Eastwood and Stella Street, and widen the highway from two to three lanes, about 36 feet wide, east of Eastwood to Ella. Improvements also include adding an enclosed storm drain system in the area, fixing drainage and replacing culverts east of Eastwood, with improvements to safety and accessibility for pedestrians.
Mechanic Street will be reconstructed to a three-lane highway with new pavement down to the base, new curbs and gutters, new sidewalks on both sides, curb inlets and added overhead lighting.
