KANSAS CITY - MoDOT and the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $3,000 for the return of a hand-held portable radio taken during the theft of a Motorist Assist truck early Thursday, and for information leading to the arrest of the thief.
The Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline and MoDOT request the public's assistance in identifying those responsible for the crime, which occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m., at the Motorist Assist building at 3503 E. 18th Street. The suspect stole a Motorist Assist truck and drove it through the gate of the complex. The gate was destroyed and there was extensive damage to the truck.
KC Scout operators on duty saw that the truck was moving using the GPS equipment on the truck. The GPS was used to locate the truck just north of 24th and Lawn, in Kansas City, Missouri. The suspect ran from the area before police arrived.
Several items were removed from the Motorist Assist truck, including the hand-held portable radio, which was radio is programmed with the KCPD and MoDOT frequencies. The radio has been deactivated by KCPD and will no longer transmit or receive any radio calls.
Any information regarding the suspect(s) or whereabouts of the missing equipment can be provided to the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline. A reward of up to $3,000.00 has been posted in this case.
