I-70 Ramp on the North Side of the Downtown Loop to Remain Closed Through July 17
KANSAS CITY, MO - Bridge rehabilitation and resurfacing that closed the eastbound I-70 ramp to northbound I-35 on the north side of the downtown loop on March 30 will now continue until July 17, weather permitting.
Excessive rainfall and added work have postponed completion to the three separate structures that make up the I-70 ramp to northbound I-35, including the ramp to Independence Avenue. Severe deterioration was discovered at a critical area of these bridges where the joints connect the three structures, prolonging the reopening of this ramp. MoDOT continues to work closely with the contractor to find ways to help accelerate the new schedule as much as possible, including operating crews ten-hours a day, six days a week.
Once the rehabilitation work is complete, crews will resurface the bridge creating a smoother driving surface for the more than 12,000 motorists who use this ramp daily.
A signed detour is posted. Motorists who normally use the ramp have been detoured to the south side and eastern portion of the downtown loop to reach northbound I-35 until the anticipated reopening date in July.
