Expected Bad Weather to Postpone Closure of I-70 Ramp on the North Side of the Downtown Loop
KANSAS CITY, MO - The closure of the eastbound I-70 ramp to northbound I-35 on the north side of the downtown loop for bridge rehabilitation and resurfacing has been delayed due to expected rain and the possibility of snow this weekend. Crews have postponed the closure until the morning of Friday, April 3. The ramp is still scheduled to reopen by May 22, weather permitting. In addition, the ramp to Independence Avenue will close at the same time.
Various lane closures throughout the downtown loop are expected to begin on Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2 as crews prepare for the bridgework and the placement of the detour signs. Motorists entering the area should be aware of the posted work zones and are asked to slow down.
Crews will be conducting extensive bridge rehabilitation and bridge deck improvements in various locations along the entire length of the bridge from eastbound I-70 to northbound I-35. Once the patching is complete, crews will resurface the bridge creating a smoother driving surface for the more than 12,000 motorists using this ramp daily.
A signed detour will be posted. Motorists who normally use the ramp will be detoured to the south side and eastern portion of the downtown loop to reach northbound I-35 until the anticipated reopening date in May. The contractor will be working on a disincentive program, and will be penalized for any work extending beyond the contracted timeframe.
