Why is MoDOT doing this project?
The two Route 10 bridges over the East Fork of the Fishing River and Marietta Street in Excelsior Springs have exceeded their design life. MoDOT will replace both bridges and construct a sidewalk on the south side of Route 10 between the two bridges.
The new bridges will be smoother and safer. The bridge over Marietta street will be reconstructed with a higher vertical clearance of 15‘6” instead of 12’0”. The new sidewalk between the bridges connects the downtown park system to several neighborhoods.
Cultural Resources and Historic Preservation
The Missouri Department of Transportation must consider how transportation improvements impact the environment, including cultural resources such as buildings, structures (i.e., bridges), objects, archaeological and historic sites, and historic districts. For more information:
What is the project time line?
This project is scheduled to start construction Spring 2015 and should end by December 2015
How will this project impact traffic?
During construction, Route 10 will be closed between Regent Ave. and Saratoga St. A signed detour will send traffic around the closure using state routes. Motorists can use Route M, Route D and Route 69 to bypass this route. Click here to download detour map.
How is this project funded?
This project will use MoDOT funding, which is a combination of Federal and State funding. The City of Excelsior Springs has picked an aesthetic enhancement package for the bridges and sidewalk section that meets the expectation of their historic community and their downtown plan.
