About the Project
The new interchange crosses I-35 and includes ramps to/from I-35, bike lanes, and pedestrian facilities. In addition, the project will feature three separate roundabouts along 19th Street located at Watson Drive, Nation Road and the future Sam Barr Drive intersection.
The new interchange will help connect the west and east side of the City of Kearney by providing additional access across I-35. It will also help promote economic development, reduce the travel time and congestion for commuters and provide safer non-motorized transportation options.
The project is currently estimated to be $27 Million. It is jointly funded by MoDOT and the City of Kearney.
- MoDOT will fund up to $10 Million from the statewide Cost Share Program.
- City of Kearney will fund the remaining balance from a dedicated 1% sales tax that was approved by the voters in April 2018.
Traffic Impacts and Timeline
The majority of the project will be constructed in undeveloped areas and will have little impact to traffic during construction. The project construction is anticipated to begin in Spring of 2022 and should be open to traffic in the fall of 2023.

MoDOT held a public hearing about this project on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at the Kearney City Hall located at 100 E Washington St, Kearney, Missouri 64060.
