What is a Roundabout?
An intersection which accommodates
traffic flow in one direction around a central circular island. It is
used as a form of intersection control, like traffic signals or stop signs.
Why is a roundabout being
used at this intersection?
The five-way junction had unusual
geometrics and caused conflicting traffic movements. The roundabout simplified
the intersection, giving the driver a smoother transition to entrances and exits.
The one-lane roundabout requires drivers to yield to one-way traffic before
entering, then round the loop to the appropriate exit. If you miss the
exit, do not stop! Simply travel around the circle again and exit on the
appropriate road.
