In 2011, 122 people were killed and 792 were seriously injured in crashes involving a driver 65 years and older. People age 65 and older account for nearly 17 percent of the licensed drivers in Missouri and between 2009 and 2011, older driver involved fatalities and disabling injuries have decreased by nearly 20%.

Aging baby boomers and increases in life expectancy are likely to cause the proportion of the senior population in Missouri to rise from about 10 percent today to more than 18 percent by 2020.

The Missouri Department of Transporation works closely with the Subcommittee on Elder Mobility and Safety through the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety. For more information visit saveMOlives.com
