MoDOT Begins Prep for Winter Operations

Even though the first snowfall may be weeks away, MoDOT is preparing early to make sure it has the right number of people, in the right places, ready to plow and treat Missouri's 33,891 miles of state routes.

MoDOT is looking for emergency snowplow operators to assist us with our winter operations efforts. While the department's 2,400 maintenance employees are ready to plow snow this winter, a big regional or statewide storm means we must rely on extra help from emergency snowplow operators. - More Information/Apply On-line

Kansas City's Manchester Bridge Project

I-70 travelers will be treated to a smooth journey both during and after construction to replace the Manchester Bridge, thanks to the innovative proposal MoDOT has selected for the design-build project.

All mainline lanes of I-70 will remain open during peak weekday periods to minimize any construction-related congestion during the two-year bridge replacement project, which is scheduled to begin later this year.

Hurricane Deck Bridge Opened - Time-Lapse Video Shows Construction

The construction of the new Hurricane Deck Bridge in Sunrise Beach is complete, and the bridge is now open to traffic. It's the talk of the Lake of the Ozarks area, so to celebrate this successful and historic project, a one-minute time-lapse video shows construction from start to finish. Take a look - Hurricane Bridge

Here's a fun fact about the project - Experienced trade workers spent more than 50,000 hours building the bridge, not including time spent on the project by support staff.

National Child Passenger Safety

Each September, the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety joins the national focus to ensure all caregivers of young children know the importance of buckling children in an appropriate child restraint.

In 2012, nine children in Missouri under age eight were killed and 92 suffered serious injuries as occupants in motor vehicle crashes in Missouri.

When used correctly, child safety seats are 71 percent effective in preventing fatalities for infants and 54 percent effective for toddlers.
